2011: Goodbye to Bad Rubbish

bang
Fucking 2011. It was a filthy year. [Ptui!] Let us never speak of it.

Well, except for a few shiny bits, which follow in photographic form:

Photobucket

Monkey opening her Christmas loot.

Photobucket

Monkey reveling in her favorite piece of Christmas loot, a Minecraft creeper t-shirt.

Photobucket

Monkey playing with her second favorite piece of Christmas loot, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky.

Photobucket

And MY favorite piece of Christmas loot, The One Ring, the new Lord of the Rings rpg. Really a beautiful bit of work, this. Now all I need is a crew of folks interested in playing a game that actually replicates the world of Arda as the professor wrote it.

Yeah, that'll happen.

Thanks.

Feeling ok, approaching normal. Still a bit tired, but that's pretty much my default state anyway. How about you?

Any Xmas that involves Minecraft Creepers AND Jon Hodgson art is epic win, I think. :)

We were playing a Burning Wheel game in Arda (midway between the Hobbit and LOTR) that was working out pretty well until the DM got a girlfriend. (Now we're playing BW in a Tolkienic world with a different DM.)

Burning Wheel's pretty much slightly off-brand Tolkien anyway, isn't it? Base setup, anyway? How is it? I've got the second edition, but I've never been able to find a crew willing to give it a shot.

So much of BW seems like it should be so easy to play, but there are things that seem dedicated to making it more difficult. Months in, I still don't quite understand the injury mechanic with Steel. I don't mind playing, but I'd be terrified to run a game of it. Skills on the other hand are really easy and I love the Beliefs and Instincts section of it.

Mouseguard is a very streamlined version of it that we played as a one-off and I loved it. Burning Empires was a more complex sci-fi version of it that I absolutely detest, and was the worst game I have ever played.
